I was trying to see if I could post a bit of ASCII art I did earlier and I got so fucking fed up with Tumblr/Firefox refusing to let me paste pre-formatted text that I decided to take matters into my own hands. Here's a thrown-together script that uses xdotool and xkbcli to convert a file into keystrokes events. Eat my ass rich text fields.

Had a dream I saw blog on tumblr with "irradiated blogs DNI" in the description and when I looked through their posts I discovered there were some blogs with "uranium code" in their css that would expose you to literal radiation if you looked at them.

Gregor Linguistic Analysis
Hello. I just finished Canto 1, so as I said, here are some things I found fun about the way Gregor speaks. I’ll do Rodya after Canto 2, and so on and so forth.

Gregor’s sentences are short to mid length, maintaining a natural, almost casual rhythm. His syntax is straightforward, avoiding complex subordinate clauses or elaborate phrasing. This reflects his laid-back and nonchalant attitude— his speech is efficient, unpretentious, and devoid of pretense. His words flow with a conversational ease, almost never rushed or clipped (despite his habit to drop subjects, compare him to someone like Ishmael, for example— he’s more warm), reinforcing his uncomplicated nature, which is something he really wants others to see— he wants to be a simple, regular man. He does not want to be seen as someone important.
He uses shortened constructions—such as omitting subject or auxiliary verbs—which gives his speech a relaxed, even offhand feel. In particular, when he talks about his past, he almost never talks proactively.
Fitting his casual speech and “action-oriented” past, Gregor also uses phrasal verbs in a casual context quite a bit. This also ties in with his tendency to downplay his personal struggles by speaking as if they were just ordinary events. When he does this, he also tends to pass the responsibility to his superiors, placing himself in the position of “but I’m just a guy, it’s (external thing).”. (His landlord, his manager).

Gregor is, however, quite the normal guy when it comes to how he speaks, so though there’s no much to say about his word choice outside of some strangely old-timey whimsical words every now and then (absolutely used to make him seem more warm, affable, and distinctively NOT like a strict military guy.) But there is quite a bit to say about what he “chooses” to say.
When talking about serious or painful things, he keeps it brief but adds this elliptical phrasing that lets the weight of his words sink in without outright stating it. He never spells out his emotions—his restraint makes the pain obvious without needing to say it. It’s less about what he says and more about what he holds back.

However, the most standout thing about the way Gregor speaks is the way he always subjugates himself whenever joking. Gregor himself says he does this.
However, his jokes about his arm will always hold more passive aggression and underlying hurt than his more elaborate, whimsical jokes about his previous military position— the topics that make him most upset.

He eases not only outright— but any potential hostility with humor. Consider the way he uses a mild, almost playful, word like “pest” to describe his condition—it reflects the level of detachment he’s employing in his suffering, a detachment that very much is the only thing helping him manage that suffering. He can’t open about how much discomfort it causes him, so fashions it as a palatable thing others can laugh at WITH him, instead of AGAINST him.
He believes people will always mock him, and even more importantly thinks there is something worth mocking about him, so this humor is always light hearted and easy to ignore. He does not challenge others cruelty towards him.
It’s not so big of a deal that people see him as something other if he’s not dangerous. He’s a monster, but just a small one. A pest. Insignificant.

In this same way he often uses rhetorical questions and double negatives to get his point across on this topic. For example, when he says the above, he’s highlighting the unpleasantness of his arm without directly addressing the actual discomfort it causes others. It’s his way of communicating subtly— avoiding bitterness or confrontation, trying to force himself into the “joke” of how revolting he is. Another way he does this is by referring to the other soldiers as “things”. Othering himself.
So despite his ease with small talk (being the first to introduce himself to us), his deeper emotions often surface in the spaces between words. He lets the quiet do the heavy lifting, as he is unwilling to say things plainly.

His distaste for status is reflected most simply in how he speaks to Dante.
“Manager Bud” → “Bud” softens authority. It reflects his preference for informal, cordial relationships rather than professional ones. The very concept of a work life similar to the military structure he knows is something he is absolutely terrified of. He does not like putting people higher or lower than him.
Gregor’s speech register is informal, with a blend of
- Working class pragmatism
- Older, slightly rustic quirks (usually one off words like “bugger”)
- Military lingo (in particular, he mentions “getting medals” a lot where others would say “rewarded”.)
In conclusion: He is someone who has been through a range of social settings but refuses to perform “proper” speech anymore in any effort to seem like a regular citizen, something he feels deeply he is not, and so he uses humor to feel as if he is “in” on the joke of how revolting he is.

Apologies for the delayed Issue!
As you might know, we unfortunately had to delay this Issue due to some personal matters. But as promised, it’s finally here! We wouldn’t want you to miss out on any news.
As this Issue says on the front page, it contains news from November 23rd to November 29th.
But! The Events should be updated to match their status on December 4th, as they are more time-sensitive.
Issue 32 should be released on time. That means two Issues this week!

~ EVENT SPOTLIGHT : Videotome Jam - "Waiting" ~
November 16th to December 1st 2024
Videotome Jam is a two-week-long game jam for games made in any of the Videotome engines with the optional theme of "Waiting".
What is Videotome?
Videotome is a series of small homebrew IF/VN engines made by Freya Campbell (communistsister), an indie game developer focusing on narrative games that are usually:
science fiction, horror, &/or romance
close to 100% LGBTQ characters
free/PWYW with low tech requirements
liable to make players keysmash due to feelings
Videotome was first released in April 2022 as a part of a game entry for the Domino Club collective. The initial idea for the engine was to make writing text-heavy games as hassle-free as possible, focusing not that much on the visual presentation format, but more on the writer's experience. It would allow writers to write in a notepad and then it would somehow grab the .txt file and parse the lines into an array, spitting them out one line at a time as a kinetic novel.
At the moment there are four engines available:
Videotome, for linear, no frills text / images / music;
Videotome ADV, adding a more conventional layout with ignorable choices and branching;
Super Videotome, for more fully featured and freeform image/canvas use;
Videotome Heartbreak, adding a stat raising dating sim & storylets structure to the above.

my besties pushed me to make my tumblr debut so now you all have to read my thoughts on will graham! so here you go…
i’m gonna yap about will grahams speech patterns and overall syntax of his voice and words because it’s just so fascinating to me like his whole character and the way hugh dancy portrayed him so clearly
and yes i am a will autism truther it’s non debatable for me and i truly dgaf if bryan fuller or hugh denies it
so i know in hannibal he’s a british man using an american accent so of course words are going to sound a little off, but i’ve seen adam where hugh is not putting on an accent and the man still sounds like autism turbo blasted!
so to start, reading red dragon by thomas harris, literally 3 pages into the book you get met with this
“Jack Crawford heard the rhythm and syntax of his own speech in Graham's voice. He had heard Graham do that before, with other people. Often in intense conversation Graham took on the other person's speech patterns. At first, Crawford had thought he was doing it deliberately, that it was a gimmick to get the back-and-forth rhythm going.
Later Crawford realized that Graham did it involuntarily, that sometimes he tried to stop and couldn't.”
so it gives a very good foundation for the concept of wills speech patterns in the sense that he Doesn’t consciously know the patterns he’s picking up on and taking on himself.
hugh reading red dragon absorbed that quote and STUCK to it because the way he talks with hannibal versus jack versus bedilia verses alana ETC his speech patterns change every time.
i wanted to highlight this part of the script and i unfortunately couldn’t find a recording of the whole quote but it’s this one
Hannibal: You stood in the breathing silence of Garrett Jacob Hobbs's home, the very spaces he moved through. Tell me, Will, did they speak to you?
Will: With noise and clarity.
Hannibal: You could sense his madness, like a bloodhound.
Will: I tried so hard to know Hobbs. To see him--past the slides and vials, beyond the lines of the police reports, between the pixels of all those printed faces of sad, dead girls.
Hannibal: How did you feel seeing Marissa Schuur impaled in his antler room?
Will: Guilty.
Hannibal: Because you couldn't save her?
Will: Because I felt like I killed her.
the way will talks is so….not neurotypical whatsoever like saying dead bodies spoke to him with “noise and clarity”
first thing is they’re dead they don’t talk so the word noise is very interesting to use and Clarity as well
and his monotone face as he says guilty i cant
and the way he feels guilty to an extreme as though he himself killed her feels so….idk the word but yeah pure empathy etc etc but i feel like autistic people (myself included but this isn’t gonna be intentionally projecting) but walk around feeling an overwhelming sense of guilt for even existing in a neurotypical centric world and having a brain that need something different just can feel very burdening.
and this is just crazy his ‘breakup’ scene w hannibal where he says
“I miss my dogs. I'm not going to miss you. I'm not going to find you. I'm not going to look for you. I don't want to know where you are or what you do. I don't want to think about you anymore.”
